WHAT IS TEST-TUBE BABY PROCEDURE?
The test-tube baby procedure performed for individuals who are unable to have babies with natural ways can be defined as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), or with other words, bringing reproductive cells together in the laboratory environment.
Test-tube baby treatment covers the treatment process of collecting the ova, female reproductive cells and sperms, male reproductive cells and bringing them together outside the body in a laboratory environment and achieving fertilization.
IN VITRO FERTILIZASYON (IVF)
This treatment type assisting reproduction consists of allowing the sperm to enter ovum naturally as it is. Although this happens in the laboratory environment, it does not require micro manipulation for the success of the procedure.
MICRO INJECTION (ICSI)
This treatment type assisting reproduction is rather popular, and is a common form of fertility treatment. In this technique, the ovum is fertilized using a device known as micro manipulator, and sperm is injected into the ovum in the laboratory environment.
TESTICULAR SPERM EXTRACTION (TESE)
In case no sperm is observed in semen in two successive sperm analyses, a situation called “azospermia” motile sperms can be harvested from the testicular tissue in an attempt to fulfill the wish of being a parent.
INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION (IUI)
This is a common type of Tube-baby procedures. The term IUI is used to define the procedure of directly injecting sperms into the uterus by skipping the stage of harvesting ova entirely. This is a procedure with lower cost, although the success rate is lower.
SUCCESS RATE
Future mother’s age and ovary’s capacity comes in the first place among the factors affecting the success rate in tube-baby procedure. The younger the mother is, the higher the tube-baby procedure success rate.
What is the Success Rate in Tube-baby Procedure?
While the future father’s age is important for the success rate, the determining factor is the future mother’s age. The success rate of the first tube-baby trial between the ages 20 to 30 is around 70%. While the success rate is 50% between ages 30 to 35, it decreases to 45% in the age range of 35-37. Success rate in the age range of 38-40 is 30%, while the same for the age range of 40-42 is as low as 20%.
